Vicki Jean Stewart

Vicki Stewart, 68, of Maryville, Mo. formerly of Creston died Sunday, November 5, 2023, at her home in Maryville. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday November 12, 2023, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Tim Maxa will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open memorial visitation with family to receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m., prior to service time Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the family. Vicki J. Stewart was born March 8, 1955, in Clarinda, Ia. to Frederick LeRoy VanPelt and Norma Jean (Abbott) VanPelt. Vicki graduated from Creston Community High School in 1973.

In 1973 Vicki was united in marriage to Jim Stewart. They initially settled in Loveland, Colo. She worked as a homemaker and was excited to start a family and her first son Kevin Stewart was born in 1975. In 1976 they moved to Kirksville, Mo., where her second son Kyle Stewart was born.

Eventually in 1979 they moved for the final time to Maryville and Vicki resided there for 44 years, aside from one year, 1983, spent in Charles City, Ia. before returning to Maryville, Mo. Vicki attended cosmetology school and became a licensed Cosmetologist in addition to being an active mother and a proud homemaker. Vicki and Jim later divorced.

Vicki had her own business that she operated out of her home, following that she held a mix of retail, housekeeping, and caretaking jobs before retiring in 2020. She spent a great deal of time during some of these years with Dennis VanGundy who became her life partner. Vicki greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, often traveling to visit her sons and grandchildren in Alabama and Maryland. She also enjoyed cooking, music, going to concerts, gardening, and simply going for a drive around town.

Vicki is survived by her brother Rick (wife Ginger) VanPelt of Creston; her sons, Kevin (wife Meg) Stewart children Stella and Michael of Hoover, Ala.; and Kyle (wife Cameron) children Jackson, Brady and Charles of Damascus, Md.; niece, Kim (husband Jeff) Lutrick children Lincoln, Mitchell and Rachael of Mt. Ayr, Ia., niece Linda (husband Marcus) Dickerson children Ashley and Adam of Raleigh, N.C., nephew Rick (wife Emily) VanPelt children Maxwell and Malcolm of Edina, Minn., niece Parker VanPelt of Creston, Ia., niece Dotty Neely (husband Jami Lockhart) of Fayetteville, Ark., nephew Bill Neely of Springdale, Ark., and nephew Van Neely of Fayetteville, Ark., nephew Corey (wife Krista) VanPelt Children Vanessa and Matt of Bettendorf, Ia., niece Sarah (husband Mark) Kraeszig daughter Alesha of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law Sherry VanPelt of Bettendorf, Ia. and several Abbott and VanPelt cousins.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, life partner Dennis VanGundy, brother Rich VanPelt, Tunie VanPelt and Sister Mary Neely.
