Velma A. Messbarger

Velma Addaline Messbarger, 95, of Burlington Junction, MO passed away August 4, 2018 at Maryville Living Center with family at her side.

Velma was born February 26, 1923 in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Perry Ellsworth-Cassel and Viola Elizabeth (Berry) Cassel.

She married Maurice Ceddell Messbarger on Christmas Day 1939. He passed away July 2, 2000.

Velma was also preceded in death by her parents, four angel babies, a granddaughter, Tabitha Messbarger, four angel grandbabies, her only sister, Anna Brandon, and a half-brother, Richard Cassel.

Velma attended school in Burlington Junction, MO. She was an avid cat lover caring for any and all that needed her. Velma and her husband owned and operated Velma’s Bank Restaurant in Burlington Junction, MO for several years. She later worked at Robbins Lightning as a weathervane painter and painted the large pheasant weathervane that remains outside of the business today. She was then a door greeter at Wal-Mart for many years prior to her retirement.

Survivors include: Daughter, Caroline Helliker, Raymore, MO; Son, Albert “Butch” (Karen) Messbarger, Tarkio, MO; Son, Curtis (Tonia) Messbarger, Fairfax, MO; Son, Randy Messbarger, Aurora, MO; Daughter, Tamara McGuire, Maryville, MO; Daughter, Loyalea (Russell) Henry-Marriott, Glenwood, IA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Rosary will be held Friday, August 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Maryville, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately, with entombment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Maryville, MO. under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Memorials may be directed in Velma’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Nodaway Humane Society.
