Sylvia Ann Kiburz

May 5, 1932 — July 11, 2023

Sylvia Ann Elizabeth (Van Hove) Kiburz, 91, of Maryville, MO, and former longtime resident of Bedford, IA, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center, Cameron, MO.

Sylvia was born on May 5, 1932, in Titonka, IA.  She went to a country school and graduated from Titonka High School in 1950.  She lived most all her life in Iowa and moved to Maryville two years ago.  Her parents were Ted and Bina (Tjaden) Van Hove.

Her parents preceded her in death, as well as her husband Bill Kiburz, and her brothers and sisters: Clarence (Esther) Van Hove, Ted (Helen) Van Hove, Wilma (Dan) DeWard, Florence (Bob) Spear, Merlin Van Hove, James (JoAnn) Van Hove, and brother-in-law, Alfred Stenzel.

Sylvia was a homemaker for many years, but had worked at Meyers Drug in Waverly, IA from 1956 to 1958 where she and Bill met. After they married, she dedicated her life to her family. She later worked 10 years at the Hy-Vee Food Store, Bedford, IA, and retired in 1991.

Sylvia married William “Bill” Frank Kiburz on April 20, 1958, at the Good Hope Lutheran Church, in Titonka, IA. They enjoyed and loved each other for 48 years of marriage.

During their marriage, Bill was a hog buyer, and his transfers took them to Waverly, IA, Grundy Center, IA, Mason City, IA, St. Joseph, MO, then Kansas City, MO.  They moved to Bedford, IA in 1976.

Sylvia was of the Lutheran faith.  Her memberships included the American Legion Auxiliary, Bedford, and the Christian Presbyterian Church women’s group in Bedford.  She liked to quilt, was an amazing cook, and was known for her turkey and dressing.  She loved her family and was very family orientated.

Throughout their marriage and as their family grew, Bill and Sylvia traveled extensively with their daughters. They had a love for camping and boating. After their retirement, they traveled throughout the United States.

Her survivors include her four daughters, Kimberly Hullinger, Maryville, MO, Suzanne Neff, Columbia, MO, Lisa Kiburz, Maryville, MO, and Karla (Bright) Mensah, Hendersonville, NC.  Also surviving are her twin brother, Sylvester (Wanda) Van Hove, Cedar Falls, IA, her sister, Caroline Stenzel, Buffalo Center, IA, and her sister-in-law, Lonnie Van Hove. She was deeply loved by her eight grandchildren, Ross (CareyBeth) Hullinger, Brock (Brandi) Hullinger, Eric (Kate) Neff, Ryan (Lauren) Neff, Haley (Adam) Brady, Hattie Mensah, Joseph “Dyce” Mensah, and Elijah “Memphis” Mensah. She was blessed with ten great grandchildren, Kepler, Haynes, Averi, Saylor, and Blaine Hullinger, and Charlotte, Hadley, Hagan, and Henry Neff, and Wyatt Brady, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family from 3-4:00 PM, on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  The funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM.

The burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, IA, at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 17, 2023.
