Richard William “Rick” Smith, 82, of Maryville, MIssouri, passed from this life on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
Rick was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on October 25, 1942, to Adrian B. and Lenora Ethel (Gaddis) Smith, they preceded him in death. He had lived in the Braddyville, Iowa area, and in Skidmore, then moved to Maryville in 1979.
Rick was a member of the initial graduating class of the College Springs, Iowa high school. He then proudly served his country in the US Air Force.
In 1974, at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville, Rick was united in marriage to Sheryl Ann Anderson, she survives of the home.
Rick farmed in the Braddyville area and had worked at Plainview. He later farmed for the Baker family in the Maryville area. He had been the station manager at Walter Brothers, and then he and Sheryl were part of the first group hired at Uniroyal in Maryville. He later worked at Federal Mogul, he delivered parts for L&L Auto in Maryville, then he and Sheryl started, owned and operated their own cleaning business in the area.
He loved the outdoors; he would mow, weed-eat, and raise and tend his large garden. He liked to camp; he worked with wood and refinished many pieces of furniture. Rick was of the Methodist faith and had been a member at the Elks and Eagle’s Lodges.
His survivors include his wife, Sheryl Smith, of the home, 4 children, Pam (Tom) Wenzel, Ankeny, Iowa, Chuck (Amy) Harkrider, Plattsburg, Missouri, Scott (Kelli) Harkrider, Plattsburg, Missouri, Amy (Brad) Adwell, Maryville, Missouri, 11 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri. The burial will follow in the Jennings Cemetery, Alanthus Grove, Missouri. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggested memorials be given in Rick’s name to establish a fund to plant trees at Mozingo Lake, Maryville.
