Murrin Laverne Lewis

Murrin L. Lewis, 91, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Hopkins, MO, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at the Maryville Living Center.

Murrin was born in Hopkins, MO, on May 5, 1927.  His parents were Oliver “Petis” and Iva Mae (Browning) Lewis.  They preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother, Paul Lewis, his sister and brother in law, Joyce and Dean Noblet, 2 half-brothers, James Lewis and Raymond Lewis, and 2 nephews, Daniel Lewis and Thomas Lewis.

Murrin graduated from Hopkins High School.  He played Saxophone, and even in grade school he played with the high school band.  He continued to play for many years.

Except for his time in the Navy, and 2 years in Tribune, Kansas, he lived most of his life in the area.

He was a member of the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins.  He was a former member of the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Posse; and was a Boy Scout Leader.  He like to deer hunt with his brother.  He liked going to gun shows, and to buy, sell and trade guns.  He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Murrin proudly served his country in the US Navy; and was discharged in 1946.

Murrin was a bookkeeper most all his life.  He had also been a clerk for the United States Postal Service in Hopkins, MO.  He also worked as the office manager and later retired from the J.L. Houston Company in Hopkins.

On September 21, 1949, at the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church in Hopkins, Murrin was married to Zattie Mae Russell.  They recently celebrated 69 years of marriage.

His other survivors include his children, Jana and husband, David Krottinger, Edmond, OK, and Scott Lewis, Boone, IA; 4 grandchildren, Leah Krottinger, Emma and husband, Timothy Riggs, John Penick, and Galen and wife, Jessie Lewis; 6 great grandchildren; his brothers, Carl and wife, Joyce Lewis, Maryville, and Ronald and wife, Carolea Lewis, Maryville; and his sister in law, Penny Sheley, Bedford, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lewis has been cremated.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  Interment will be in the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Hopkins Cemetery Association, or to SSM Hospice, Maryville.
