Lowell Dean Vanfosson

Lowell Dean VanFosson, 83, of Maryville, Missouri, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Dean was born in Elmo, Missouri, on May 23, 1941, to James Virgil and Stella Vesta (Wilson) VanFosson.  He grew up in Elmo and was in the last graduating class of Elmo High in 1960.

In 1963, Dean joined the United States Navy, and proudly served his Country until his honorable discharge in 1967.

Dean married Dorothy May Shewey on May 18, 1968, at the former United Methodist Church in Quitman, MO.  She survives of the home.   They had lived in Quitman for several years and moved to Maryville over 30 years ago.

Dean was a custodian for many years at Northwest Missouri State University, and at Maryville Living Center.  In his younger years he worked on road construction.  He liked to play cards, listen to music, and he loved gooseberry pie.  He was a Christian.

His parents preceded him death, as well as his 5 brothers, Raymond, Glen, Marvin, Arthur, and Lewis “Dude” VanFosson, and by his sister, Hazel Estes.

Dean is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home, his sister-in-law and her husband, Mary and Bob Porter, Burlington Junction, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dean has been cremated under the care of the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  He requested no services, and his cremains will be scattered on his parents graves at the LaMar Cemetery, Elmo, Missouri.
