Kurby R. Wilmes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kurby Ryan Wilmes, a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, who left us on Monday, April 14th, 2025, at the age of 49. Born on September 15th, 1975, in Maryville, Missouri, Kurby spent his entire life in Nodaway county.

Kurby was a graduate of North Nodaway High School, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with dedication and hard work. For 28 years, he worked at Kawasaki in Maryville, Missouri, where he retired as a supervisor in the Die Casting and Machining Department. Kurby retired leaving a legacy of professionalism and friendship that will be remembered by his colleagues for years to come.

Outside of work, Kurby was a man of many passions. He found joy in bowling, fishing, gardening, and woodworking, always eager to fix things and take on new projects. A devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals. He cherished his Sundays spent visiting his parents and loved his four Chihuahuas, who brought him endless happiness.

Kurby is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Becky Lynn Wilmes, of Maryville, MO; his parents, Phillip Michael Wilmes and Karen Jean Wilmes, also of Maryville; and his brothers, Preston (Jennifer) Wilmes of Winterset, IA, Brian (Amee) Wilmes of Maryville, MO, and Nick (Kari) Wilmes of New Virginia, IA. He was a cherished uncle to his nephews, Hudson, Hayden, Hank, Keenan, and Dyllan, and his niece, Briley, as well as a great-uncle to Lee. Kurby was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Fern Metcalf, and George and Gertrude Wilmes.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Bram Funeral Home in Maryville, MO, on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Kurby will be fondly remembered. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
