Josephine Rose (Gavel) Morehouse, 90, of Hopkins, Mo, passed from this life, May 12, 2018 at her home, after a long illness.
Josie was born, November 13, 1927, in Whitehall, WI to Peter and Sophia (Morchinek) Gavel.
She was united in married to Max E. Morehouse on May 12, 1948 at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Independence, WI. To this union, four children were born.
Her education began at Warner School near Elk Creek, WI and St. Peter and Paul Catholic School, followed with graduation from Independence High School in 1946.
Josie was an avid homemaker, secretary, clerk and storeowner, head cook for the North Nodaway School district, and in later years, was a part time helper in the Pickering preschool program.
Service to her community was a major priority to Josie and she enthusiastically supported the Hopkins Community Club, Community Betterment, and numerous service programs and organizations.
Josie was affectionately known for the homemade noodles that she contributed to the Community Club Beef and Noodle dinners.
Other interests included dancing with Max, music, gardening, quilting, Green Bay Packers, numerous sports, and especially time with friends and family.
Preceding her in death were, her husband of 48 years, Max E. Morehouse, in 1996, her parents, Peter and Sophia Gavel, her brother, Master Chief John Gavel, and son, Duane Paul Morehouse.
Left to cherish her memory is a son, David (Brenda Hellwig) Morehouse, of Humansville, MO, daughters, Kathryn (Neil) Paulsen currently of Hopkins, MO and Karen (Don) Switzer of Clarinda, IA, grandsons, Andy P. Morehouse, Reid M. Paulsen, granddaughters, Maria (Jerry) Ellison, and Rachael Schmidt, great grandsons, Blake and Wade Ellison, Evan and Gavin Schmidt, sister in law, Grace Morehouse, nephews, Joe (Kristi) Morehouse and Steve Morehouse, nieces Ursula (Ed) Hovden, Sharon (Frank) Innis and Gayle Hobbs. Also numerous great nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM, Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville. The burial will follow in the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, MO.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, May 18, 2018, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the Hopkins Community Club, or Hopkins Community Betterment.
