Joseph E. Auten, 81, of Maryville, MO passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
Joseph was born September 21, 1936 near Worth, MO. His parents were George E. and Della (Deen) Auten. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his son, Ronnie Auten, his brother, Duane Auten, 2 sisters, Dorothy Vinzant and Ruby Vinzant, step granddaughter, Carissa Shafer, 2 brothers in law, Jerry Sportsman, and Roy F. Park, and niece, Linda White.
Joe spent his youth in Worth, then had resided in Fillmore, MO, Barnard, MO, and in Maryville since 1978. He was of the Methodist faith.
He loved baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He had bowled for many years in different leagues. He was a hunter and liked being outdoors; and had been a wood worker.
Joe did road construction with Ideker Construction, he also worked at LP Gas, and was a self employed plumber. He recently retired from the First United Methodist Church, after 21 years as the custodian.
On October 18, 1984, Joe was united to Beverly C. (Park), Blauvelt at the Salem Christian Church, Pumpkin Center, MO. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children, Deb McKee, Oskaloosa, IA, Terry (Tom) Hoselton, Kidder, MO; 3 step children, Kirby Blauvelt, Linn, MO, Debbie (Curtis) Lawson, Maryville, MO, and Lori (Ronald) Schafer, Skidmore, MO; 3 brothers, George (Karen) Auten, Barnard, MO, Gene Auten, Maryville, MO, and Jim (Ladonna) Auten, Conception Junction, MO; 2 sisters, Nelly Dunblazier, Des Moines, IA, and Ina Sportsman, Maryville, MO; 7 grandchildren, 8 Step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Auten has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, or the First United Methodist Church, Maryville.
