Jo Nelle Derr, 73, of Maitland, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2025, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Jo was born in Maryville, Missouri, on November 19, 1951, to Harold and Evonne (Medsker) Holmes, she lived all her life in the area, and in the same house for over 55 years.
She graduated from Nodaway-Holt High School in Graham, Missouri and had attended Northwest Missouri State University. She was a stay-at-home mom until her kids were raised, then became the Paraprofessional at Nodaway-Holt R-7.
Jo was a member and attended the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. She was musical and played the piano, playing for the “Country Christians and Plow Boys”. She had played piano and led the church orchestra at the Maitland Christian Church, and played piano at the Open Door Church, Bolckow.
She led the children choir, and she and M.C. had led the church youth group, and the church young married Sunday school classes. At Laura Street Baptist, she and M.C. had led the Nomads Sunday School Class.
Jo always had a smile and was able to laugh at herself. She loved her kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden with her flowers.
Her parents preceded her in death, as well as her son, Jace Derr, and her brother, Jon Holmes.
On November 27, 1969, Jo was united in marriage to M.C. Derr, II, and he survives of the home.
She is also survived by her children, Miller Clark (D'Andra) Derr, III, Metamora, Illinois, Brice Kelby Derr, Maryville, Missouri, and Stephanie Denae (Micheal), Wall, Savannah, Missouri. Her siblings, Jerry (Robin) Holmes, Graham, Missouri, Judy Collingsworth, Henderson, Nevada, Janice (Bill) Ungles, Skidmore, Missouri, and Jean Ann (Wayne) Lanche, Corona, California, 9 grandchildren, Brennan, Brandt and Brooklyn Derr, Kelby and Avery Derr, and Gabriel, Rebekah, Elijah, Hannah Wall, and one on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, Missouri. The burial will follow in the Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, Missouri.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Services are under the direction of the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.
