Harold H. Coffelt

August 29, 1927 — September 7, 2019

Harold H. Coffelt, 92, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019, in Maryville.

Harold was born August 29, 1927, in rural Worth County, MO, halfway between Parnell and Ravenwood. He was the fifth of ten children born to Eldon and Minnie Coffelt. When he was two years old the family moved to a farm west of Ravenwood where he grew up.

Harold attended elementary school and high school in Ravenwood. He later enrolled in an electronics correspondence course through a technical school based in Chicago. The home study course taught him how to do wiring, plumbing and other basic skills which proved useful throughout his life.

On November 30, 1946, Harold was united in marriage to Hazel Chapman with whom he shared his life for 67 years. They became the parents of three daughters and one son, all of whom survive. They are Twila Ellis, of St. Joseph, MO, Carol (Gordon) Segal, of South Lyon, MI, Rhoda (Paul) Brady, Lake in the Hills, IL, and Randy (Linda) Coffelt, of Seymour, TN. Other survivors include his sister, Lovella (Paulie) Schmitz, of Kirksville, MO, his brother, Jerry (Esther) Coffelt, of Ravenwood, MO; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Harold and his family lived in Wisconsin for many years, and during that time they worked together building houses. They built the house from the foundation to the roof. Each family member shared skills which resulted in the construction of eight houses.

Before his retirement, Harold had worked for the Snap-On Tool Co. in Kenosha, WI, for 20 years. He and his wife Hazel returned to Missouri following his retirement.

For 15 years the couple enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona.

They moved into the Homestead, a retirement community in Maryville in June of 2012.

Hazel passed away April 24, 2014. In addition to his wife of 67 years and his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his five brothers; Wayne, Wesley, Willard, Curtis, and Forrest Coffelt, two sisters; Vera Trimble and Verda Myers, and one grandson Jeremy Segal.
