Glen Roland “G.R.” McGinness, Jr., 92, of Maryville, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the Village Care Center, Maryville, Missouri, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.
G.R. was born North of Maryville on December 30, 1931. His parents were Glen Roland and Velma Pauline (Hayden) McGinness, Sr. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his son, Glen Allen McGinness in 1996, his stepson, Ricky Strough, grandson, Derrick Neff, step great granddaughter, Blaklea Rae Rush, his sisters, Mary Wilkinson, Lota Beery, and Sharon Weston, and his brother, Carroll McGinness.
He attended grade school in Clearmont, Missouri, then graduated from Quitman High School, class of 1949. He excelled in basketball in school.
G.R. farmed for many years before moving to California for a few years, and then returned.
He proudly served his Country in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 and served for two years in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Maryville, and was also a member of Post 315, American Legion, in Burlington Junction, Missouri.
G.R. liked to hunt Coyotes. He also did some woodworking and liked doing yard work, and was known as a pretty good storyteller.
On May 14, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nevada, G.R. was united in marriage to Alyce Joan Johnston. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his son, Greg Mark McGinness, Belton, Missouri, his daughter, Karen Wooldridge, Raymore, Missouri, his step children, Marcia (Gary) Rush, Sheridan, Missouri, Steve (Gerianne) Strough, Stanberry, Missouri, and Chris (Joyce) Strough, Burlington Junction, Missouri, 2 sisters, Joette (Paul) Dow, College Springs, Iowa, and Eloise (Donnie) Lewis, Parnell, Missouri, 6 grandchildren, Ryan Wooldridge, Regan Wooldridge, Courtney Owen, Joel McGinness, Skyler McGinness, and Jacob McGinness, 7 great grandchildren, Jayden Owen, Garett and Jared Owens, Gia and Quincy McGinness, and Brody and Braxton McGinness, 2 great-great grandchildren, Lana and Maggie, 15 step grandchildren, 41 step great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. McGinness has been cremated under the care of the Bram Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Bram Funeral Home. The burial, with full military rites, will follow the service at the Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction, Missouri.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
