George Irvin Williams, 92, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Veterans Home in Bellevue, NE.
George was born in Siam, IA, then lived and was raised in Hopkins, MO, where he graduated high school. He lived in the Maryville area since the early 1940’s.
George received his BS at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, then his Masters of Science for Teachers at the University of Missouri/Columbia. He taught Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Advanced Math for 20 years at the Maryville High School. He also was a bookkeeper and had done the books and income tax preparation for many area businesses.
His memberships included the First United Methodist Church, where he was the Treasurer and bookkeeper for many years. He was a member, the bookkeeper, and Past Exalter Ruler of the Maryville Elks Lodge #760, and was also District Deputy of the Elks. He was a lifetime member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100, Maryville, and recently was a member of the Papillion NE, American Legion Post 32.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Margia M. (Cates) Williams, in 2006, they were married in Maryville in 1943, his siblings, and his son in law, Danny Fraze.
He proudly served his country during WW II in the United State Army, and was honorably discharge in 1943.
He is survived by his children, Beverly Diane Fraze, Maryville, MO, Michael I. (Joyce) Williams, LaVista, NE; 2 grandchildren, Julie (Dan) Hurley, and Nicholas Williams; 3 grandchildren, Kadeyn, Bridget and Alice.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO. The burial will follow with full military honors in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM, Friday, December 15, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
