Dorothy Ann (Clark) Schmidt, 84, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Pickering, MO, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018. She had resided at the Maryville Living Center, Maryville, MO, as her health had declined for several years.
Dorothy was born on December 10, 1933, in Matfield Green, Kansas, the first child of Frank G. and Pauline (Heying) Clark. Three sons joined the family in the following years; Frank, Harold, and Gary.
She graduated from Greensburg, KS. High School in 1952 and married John R. Runkle, a Marine, who had recently returned from the Korean War. Three children were born of this union. They resided in Meade, KS and Dodge City KS. The couple later divorced.
Dorothy had a love for gardening. She treasured her summer vegetable garden and had beautiful flowers from early spring to late fall. She was especially fond of deep red and pink Peonies that grew in her yard. She looked after the squirrels and birds in the winter months and ensured they were fed. She adopted orphaned kitties and found homes for others. She was active in her little community and volunteered at numerous events. She loved country music and loved to dance the two-step!
She retired from the ARMARK food service at Northwest Missouri State University and had worked in retail stores to include PAMIDA in Maryville, Mo.
Dorothy is survived by her 3 children, Lori K. Davies of Glan-Munchweiler, Germany, John A. Runkle of Indianapolis IN, Donald R. Runkle of Charlotte, NC, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Frank (June) Clark, Marionville, Mo, Harold (Georgia) Clark, Stanton, Iowa. Gary Clark, St Joseph and other extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pauline Clark.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Methodist church.
Graveside services and burial will be 1:30 PM, Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, MO.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:00 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.
Services are under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO
