Dean E. Savage

Dean Edward Savage, of Maryville, Missouri, passed away on June 27, 2024, at the age of 88.

Dean was born on a farm near New Market, Iowa on February 22, 1936, to Edward and Helen Savage.

On June 17, 1956, he married Kay Wintermute in Bedford, Iowa.

Dean graduated from Northwest Missouri State College in 1959 and was employed as the Superintendent by the Sharpsburg, Iowa School District. Dean joined NWMSC in 1961, as the 5th grade teacher at Horace Mann Laboratory School.  He earned a Master of Arts degree from Northeast Missouri State College and a Doctorate from the University of Kansas.

Dean was Professor of Education and held administrative positions including Director of Horace Mann Learning Center, Chairman of the Department of Elementary and Special Education and Dean of the College of Education while at Northwest Missouri State University.

Dean is survived by his wife Kay and three daughters: Deanna Savage, husband, Henry Maddix, Laurie, Missouri, Henry’s, daughter Bailey Pardee, children Avery and Lyrik, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; Shari Sutton, husband, Jerry, Laurie, Missouri and Shari’s Children, Jake Steward (Hailee and daughter Hattie Rae) and Helen Steward, Calhoun, Georgia; Allison Sisney, husband Shawn and Children Olivia and Dean, Shawnee, Kansas; Sister-in-law, Alice Baldwin, Rochester, Minnesota and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Please remember Dean for his sense of humor, interest in KU basketball and golf. Dean had nine holes in one and shot his age golfing for the first time when he was seventy.

Memorial gifts are unnecessary, but Dean has supported Hospice throughout his life.

Dean has been cremated under the care of the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.  Per Dean’s request there will be no visitation or funeral services.
