Dale L. Wood

November 5, 1942 — December 16, 2024

Crown Point, Indiana

Dale Leroy Wood, 82, of Crown Point, Indiana passed peacefully from this life in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on December 16, 2024 with his loved ones at his side. He was born November 5, 1942 in Maryville, Missouri to Homer and Avil (Lynch) Wood.

Dale grew up third generation on the family farm near Elmo, Missouri. As a child he was active in 4-H and enjoyed hunting and playing baseball. As the first of four children, he gained many skills from his parents by working alongside them and fulfilling the big brother role for his siblings.

Dale graduated from Elmo High School in 1960, and Northwest Missouri State College in 1964 with a bachelor of science in education. Dale served his country in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. He later earned a master’s degree in business administration from Indiana University leading him to a career in accounting, the majority of which he spent at Meade Electric Company.

On August 12, 1967 he married Diana Hagberg and lived most of his adult life in Indiana.

Dale was an avid reader of spy thrillers, westerns, and sci-fi/fantasy and passed along his love of reading to his children.

A life-long sports fan, Dale excelled in college intermural basketball and continued to follow teams from Chicago, Indiana, and of course his home state of Missouri throughout his life.

Dale had a passion for all things automotive. Modern or vintage, he loved to discuss the unique or special cars he had owned, or would have liked to.

The family enjoyed spending time at their condo in Florida and visiting the farm and family in northwest Missouri, often to go bird-hunting.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Lyle Wood and his in-laws, John R. and Janith Hagberg.

Dale is survived by wife Diana of Crown Point, Indiana, daughter Melissa Wood of Chicago, Illinois and son Christopher Wood of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, siblings Donna (Carl) Christensen, Burlington Jct., Missouri, Lowell (Monica) Wood of Elmo, Missouri and brother-in-law John R. Hagberg Jr. of Avon, Indiana.

He will be dearly missed by his family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his friends. Services are being held on January 13th at Bram Funeral Home in Maryville, Missouri with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at LaMar Cemetery, Elmo, Missouri, after a luncheon.
