It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carol Anne Long, who peacefully departed this life on Friday, February 28, 2025, at her home in Elmo, Missouri, surrounded by family.
Carol was born on August 12, 1947, in Sumas, Washington to Gerald Woodrow and Marjorie Wanda (Martin) Porter. The youngest of seven children, Carol’s life was filled with love, laughter and family. She was 13 when her family moved from Sumas, WA to Burlington Junction, MO, where she met the love of her life, Wilbur “Leo” Long, Jr., and they were later married on July 29, 1964.
They were blessed with 57 years of marriage before Leo preceded her in death on March 15, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, Wilbur Leo Long, Sr. and Helen Kathryn (Ulmer) Long, her brothers, Keith Porter and John Porter, her sisters, Betty Jean Porter and Deloris Williams, a sister-in-law, LaVonne Porter, and brothers-in-law, Walter Williams and Frank Schupp.
Carol attended the Burlington Junction High School and graduated from West Nodaway High School. She spent her life as a dedicated homemaker. Always with a heart open to adventure, Carol was known for her love of quilting, cooking, baking, painting, fishing, camping, traveling, and making popcorn balls and caramel apples at Halloween. She loved caring for her flowers and a huge garden, but her family was her true pride and joy. She was a wonderful and devoted daughter, sister, wife, friend, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and greatly cherished all family gatherings. She made every trip to Nana’s house special.
Through the years, Carol was very active with the Elmo Community Betterment Club, the Elmo Housing program, and area events where her kindness, generosity and warm smile touched many lives, just as it did for the friends who gathered for morning coffee at the Old Bain’s Garage.
Her family grieves her loss but take comfort in the beautiful memories she leaves behind, knowing that Carol and Leo are together again. Survivors include her two children, Wilbur “Leo” (Laurie) Long, III, Maryville, MO, and Katherine (David) Guenther, Guilford, MO; sisters Pat (Raymond) Coulter, Conception Junction, MO, and Sharon Schupp, Ozark, MO; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue (Larry) Dew, Pickering, MO; five grandchildren, Kristin (Robert) Chitwood, Codie (Triston) Fox, Carrie (Steven) Grant, Wyatt (Alexandra Fisher) Long, Rickie (Anthony) Lowe; seven great-grandchildren, Aubree Chitwood, Elaina Chitwood, Braxton Lowe, Patricia Lowe, Damion Lowe, Emmett Lowe, and Claire Grant; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Carol has been cremated under the care of the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville Missouri.
Memorial services are set for 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction, MO. The family will begin to receive friends at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral. The burial will follow at the Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Elmo Community Betterment Club, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
