Mr. Alvin L. Poppa 85, of Maryville, MO, passed away at Sunday, September 05, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Maryville.

Alvin was born on November 8, 1924 in Langdon, MO. to Fred and Mary Erdman Poppa, his family moved to Maryville in 1938 from Tarkio, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold Poppa, and a grandson, Jesse Scott.

Alvin was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and received a Purple Heart Medal, and a Bronze Star. He was a member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100, Maryville.

He was employed by the City of Maryville for 40 years and retired in 1987. He started part time using a push mower to mow the city parks, later working with the street department, and was the sewer treatment operator, and retired from the water department.


Alvin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen J. Fleenor Poppa of Maryville, and by his children, son, Gene (Gail) Poppa, Maryville, daughter, Boda (Robbie) Scott, Maryville, and son, Danny Poppa, Oklahoma City, OK. His is also survived by two brothers, Merel Poppa, Maryville, and Milton Poppa, White City, OR, and by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Alvin’s wish was to be cremated. His memorial graveside service and inurnment will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, the Rev. Paul McKim will be the officiant. No formal visitation is planned, friends my sign Alvin's register book at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home.
