Maryville - Dr. James Franklin Smeltzer, 69, of Maryville, passed from this life on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at his home.
Born on April 16, 1937 in Sapulpa, OK he was the son of Mary Margaret (Robertson) Smeltzer of Englewood, TN and the late Frank C. Smeltzer.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville.
He retired from Northwest Missouri State University where he was a Professor of Physics.
He was the past President of the Board of Directors for Northwest Regional Credit Union, a faculty advisor of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Retired Teachers Association, National Science Teachers Association.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his loving wife, Naoma Fay (Chambers) Smeltzer whom he has married on September 5, 1959 in Sapulpa, OK, loving daughter, Lisa Smeltzer, Maryville, loving son, Mark Smeltzer & Kim Stanton, Kansas City, MO, loving daughter, Sherry Barnes, Sapulpa, OK, brother, Richard Smeltzer husband of Linda, Englewood, TN, sister, Susan Smeltzer Snyder wife of Phil, Houston, TX, aunt and uncle, Marion & Mary Smeltzer, Sapulpa, OK, grandchildren, Matt & Andrew Barnes, Noah Stanton Smeltzer, many nephews, nieces, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, 121 E. Jenkins Street, Maryville, Missouri with Pastor Rick Haggett & Father Albert Bruecken, OSB, Officiating. Final Resting Place will be in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville. The family will have their meal at 12 noon at the church on Thursday, prior to the services.
The family will receive friends at the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main Street, Maryville, MO 64468 on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 P.M.
