Marcella M. Wiles 82, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died January 15th in Hiawatha, Iowa.
She was born in Maryille, Missouri, September 6th, 1927 to Thomas J. Tobin and Edna M. O’Day. She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica High School, Atchison, Kansas. On July 31st 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri, she married Richard W. Wiles who preceded her in death after 61 years of marriage.
She is survived by 5 children: sons, Richard C. Wiles and wife Lynette, Jefferson City, Missouri: Douglas W. Wiles and wife Leslie, Redfield, Iowa; daughters, Linda J. Wiles and husband Mike Quist, Melanie R. Stoecker and her husband Rod, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jennifer D. Witt and husband Mike, Powell, Ohio; ten grandchildren: Rich, Sam, Martha, and Truman Wiles, Kelli and Ryan Jennings, Derek, Bryant, and Tara Witt, and Brian Stoecker; 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by 3 brothers, Phil, Larry, and Jerry Tobin, Maryville, Missouri. Her sister Thelma Moyer and brother Kenneth Tobin preceded her in death.
Marcella worked for 18 years for the Farmers Home Administration in Maryville. She was a fabulous homemaker. She delighted in preparing meals for whomever Dick happened to bring home with him for supper. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls and fruit pies and nothing gave her more pleasure than taking them to friends. She always had hot cookies and milk waiting when her kids came home from school. She was an expert seamstress making the wedding dresses for all 3 of her daughters. She could be found late at night bent over her sewing machine making dresses, blazers, mini skirts, or even costumes for sorority or fraternity theme parties.
Marcella was a member of the St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville, and the P.E.O., Chapter K.P., Maryville.
She was very proud of her Irish heritage and her trip to Ireland in 2003 was one of the highlights of her life. She had a deep and abiding devotion to her Catholic faith.
Marcella has been cremated, her Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made to St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville, Missouri.
