Harlen Edward Linville

January 19, 1918 — April 20, 2009

Harlen Linville, 91, St. Joseph, formerly of rural Barnard, passed away Monday, April 20th, 2009 at La Verna Village in Savannah, MO.

Harlen was born January 19, 1918 in Graham, Missouri, son of Grover and Pearl (Sharp) Linville. He graduated from Graham High School in 1936. He married Dorothy Friend of Graham, MO on September 2, 1939. Dorothy passed away in May of 1984. In September of 1985 Harlen married Margaret Gaddy of Graham, at the Bethany Christian Church.

A farmer for most of his life, Harlen also worked at the Co-op in Maryville, and at the MFA in Barnard before he retired in 1983. He was an avid hunter, and raised coon dogs and fox hounds for many years. He was also a member of the Northwest Missouri Coon Hunters Association and served as president for 1 year.

He was a member of the Bethany Christian Church for over 60 years, and a 45 year member of the Graham Lions Club. He and Margaret served as Grand Marshalls of the Graham Street Fair in 2007.

Along with his parents and first wife, Harlen was preceded in death by his two brothers, George and Alfred (Short) Linville, and two sisters, Ruth Swartz and Neva Noblet.

Survivors include Margaret Linville of the home, son Larry Linville, and wife Martha of Lee's Summit, MO, daughter Linda Linville of Gladstone, MO, and daughter Kathy McPherson, and husband Brian of Burlington Junction, MO. Grandchildren Darla Linville of Salem, MA, Heather Linville of Baltimore, MD, David McGinness and wife Jacque of Amazonia, MO, Liz Hawman and husband Jason of WaKeeney, KS, Jennifer VanVactor and husband P.J. of Maryville, MO, Tami McGinness of Hayes, KS, Tim McPherson and wife Andrea of Glenwood, IA and Angie Lightner and husband Mike of Burlington Junction, MO, and 11 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Bethany Christian Church or Hands of Hope Hospice at Heartland Health, St. Joseph.

There will be a visitation at the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main Street, Maryville, MO from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 22, 2009.

Services will be held at the Bethany Christian Church, Barnard, MO on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM.

Final resting place will be in the Bethany Christian Church Cemetery, Barnard, MO.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
