N. Louise Gex

N. Louise Gex , 97, of Skidmore, passed from this life on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the Village Care Center, Maryville, MO.

Born on March 6, 1910 in Graham, MO she was the daughter of the late William & Mary Lodema (Anderson) Gex.

She graduated from Graham High School in 1927; received a B.S. degree from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in 1934; her Master of Arts degree from the University of MO in 1940; and a "Director of Curriculum and Instruction" diploma from Columbia University in New York City, NY in 1954.

She was a teacher in rural Nodaway County schools from 1928 - 1934. She then taught in Teacher Training Programs in Manila and Lohrville, IA schools.

Ms. Gex joined the Kansas City school district in 1943 as an elementary teacher. In 1947 she moved to the Central Administration Office, retiring in 1975 as Director of Elementary Curriculum. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Pi Lambda Theta Honorary Society.

After retiring she returned to the family farm to make her home with her sister and brother-in-law, the late Mary and Wayne Brown.
She was a member of the Graham Christian Church, the United Workers Ladies Group, and the Morgan Sunshine Club. She was also a Red Cross volunteer for many years working at the St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, MO.

She is survived by two sister-in-laws, Ella Gex, Elba, NY, and Doloros Gex, St. Joseph, MO, 5 nieces, 3 nephews, many great nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Lodema Anderson Gex, one sister, Mary Gex Brown, and five brothers, Joe, Stanley, Virgil, Donald, and Brooking Gex.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main Street, Maryville, MO 64468. Final Resting Place will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, MO. There will be no evening visitation. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made the Charity of One's Choice.
