Avil Eileen Wood

Elmo - Avil Eileen Wood, 91, of Elmo, passed from this life on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the Parkdale Manor Care Center.

Born on May 9, 1916 in Allendale, MO, she was the daughter of the late Wilber "Buck" & Donna Hortense (Hill) Lynch.

A dedicated proponent of education, she attended what is now known as Northwest Missouri State University and earned a degree in elementary education. Avil joined the family farm with her marriage to Homer Wood on May 24, 1941. She has resided on the farm where her husband was born for the past 66 years. Avil taught in the Union Grove School and at West Nodaway and South Page School Systems until her retirement in 1981. Avil's love of gardening and flowers was evident on the family farm.

She is survived by her loving children, Dale Wood and wife Diana, Crown Point, Indiana, Donna Christensen and husband Carl, Burlington Junction, and Lowell Wood and wife Monica of Elmo, MO. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and three step granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Homer Frank Wood in 1973, a son, Lyle Joe Wood, brothers, Aubrey, Cleo, Robert Lynch and a sister, Erma Nelson.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Elmo United Methodist Church. Final Resting Place will be in the Lamar Cemetery, Elmo. The family welcomes friends at the church fellowship hall from 12:30 to 1:30 before the services.

The family will receive friends at the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main Street, Maryville, MO 64468 on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. Memorial donations may be made to scholarship fund at West Nodaway.
