Joseph Edward Straub

Joseph Edward Straub 72, of Maryville, MO., passed away at his home, Saturday, August 30, 2008, following a short illness.

Joe was born on March 14, 1936 in Fairfax, MO., he had lived all of his life in the Fairfax and Maryville areas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jurine Hopkins Straub, and an infant daughter, Marie.

Joe was a graduate Fairfax High School, he attended the University of Missouri for two years.

A Navy Veteran, Joe saw sea duty in the Pacific Command. In 1955, he was part of “Operation Wigwam”, the first under sea atomic bomb experiment and witnessed an atomic bomb explosion. He was Honorably Discharged after four years of service.

Joe was a retired carpenter and cabinet maker. First in Fairfax, and later in Tarkio and finally in Maryville, where he operated his own business. Joe loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting, and was an accomplished runner. He completed in several Marathons, and on relay race teams. Joe was an accomplished artist, and had his work displayed throughout the area.

Joe was a member of the Word of Life Church in St. Joseph. He was a former member of the Midwest Art Club, and the River Walk Art Club.

His survivors include his daughter Lynnett and husband Denny Florea, and grandson Lane Florea, all of Maryville. His son Jay and his Fiancée Trish Straub, and grandson Joseph Straub, all of Platte City, MO. His brothers, Matt Straub, Fairfax, MO, and Dick Straub, Ulster Park, NY And his beloved, Betty Sharp, Maryville, MO.

Joe’s Memorial Service will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, September, 3, 2008 at the Word of Life Church, St. Joseph. His visitation will be on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 7-8:30 P.M. at the Bram Funeral Home of Maryville, Inc.
