Zoann Severson

ZoAnn Severson, 78, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital, in St. Petersburg, FL.

ZoAnn was born in Maryville, MO, on May 18, 1938.  Her parents were Randolph C. and Izora (Swaney) Holt.  She lived in Maryville and in the 9 ^th grade the family started spending winters in Florida.  She graduated from the Clearwater Florida High School in 1956.

In 1958, she graduated from the Christian College, Columbia, MO.  In 1960, she received her B.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri Teacher College, now NWMSU.

ZoAnn taught English at Lafayette High in St. Joseph, MO, then at the Maryville Junior High.  She later taught Physical Education at St. Gregory’s School, Maryville.  She was also a partner with her husband, Robert in the Maryville Shoe Store.

She was a member and attended the First Christian Church, Maryville.  She was a member of PEO, Chapter L, the Maryville Country Club, NWMSU Booster Club, and the Tri-Sigma Sorority Alums, all of Maryville.  She loved golfing, playing bridge, watching her grandsons in their sports, and traveling with the swim team when her children participated. She liked and attended Bearcat sport events, especially football.

ZoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister in law, James R. and Carolyn Holt, and her daughter, Shawna Zech, in 2003.

In 1959, at the First Christian Church in Maryville, ZoAnn was united in marriage to Robert D. Severson, and he survives of the home in Maryville.

Other survivors include her daughter, Stacy Madhu, St. Petersburg Beach, FL, 2 grandsons, Andrew Madhu, Sunnyvale, CA, and Alex Madhu, Kansas City, MO, her son in law, Mike Zech, Maryville, 3 step grandchildren, Laura (Shawn) Graybil, Kansas City, MO, Erin (Jeremy) Nally, Bedford, IA, and Dan (Chelsi) Zech, Lenox, IA, 7 step grandchildren;  nieces and nephews, Jan (Erik) Akerblem, W. Orange, NJ, Cherlyn (Jonny) Niles, Long Branch, NJ, Adam (Elizabeth) Beattie, Altoona, IA, Meredith (Richie) Beattie, Altoona, IA, Paul (Debra) Rettenmaier, and Keli Glover, both of Kansas City, MO; 2 sister in laws, Marcie (Dave) Rettenmaier, Kansas City, MO, and Mari Beth McRoberts, Altoona, IA, and several cousins and a host of friends.

ZoAnn’s body has been cremated.  Her memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the First Christian Church, Maryville, MO.  The inurnment will be held privately at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Shawna Zech Memorial Scholarship at NWMSU, or to the First Christian Church, Maryville.
