Joan Eitel, 82, of Maryville, MO, passed away, August 17, 2016, at her residence, surrounded by her beloved family.
Joan was born November 23, 1933, in Graham, MO. Her parents were Joshua Ward Stevenson and Marvel Josephine (McDowell) Stevenson; they preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her son John; and also by her sisters, Betty Peltzer, Marie Donaldson, and Marjorie Havlic, and brother John Stevenson, her in-laws Willard Peltzer, Lawrence Donaldson, and Eugene Havlic.
Joan worked for many years as a secretary, bookeeper, and lab tech for the University of Missouri Extension Office.
Joan was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of Eastern Star, the Nodaway Historical Society, the Nodaway Geneological Society, Modern Managers Extension Club, and 4-H club.
On October 4, 1952, she married Ferris Eitel at the Graham, MO, Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of their home. Other survivors are her daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Davidson of Kansas City, MO, and Dixie (Frank) McGary of Maryville. Her grandchildren Rebecca and Jonathon Davidson of Kansas City, and Craig and Phillip McGary of Maryville,MO, and her sister- in-law Lucy Stevenson of Williamsburg, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joan's body has been donated to science.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to SSM Hospice, First United Methodist Church, New Nodaway Humane Society, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or The American Cancer Society.
