Nina Cox Schneider

Nina Cox Schneider, 79, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Mosaic Life Care, in St. Joseph.

Nina was born on September 8, 1936, near Leeton, MO, to Norman F. and Mary Epperson Cox. She attended Leeton High School and graduated from William Jewell College in 1958 with a degree in Music ducation. Her first teaching position upon graduation was Music Director for the Westboro, MO schools.

On December 27, 1959, she married Lee T. Schneider, Jr, in Leeton, MO. Lee preceded her in death on November 27, 2013. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Lee T Schneider III, her parents, one brother, Floyd “Bud” Cox and one sister, Margaret LaFavor.

She is survived by son, Kevin (Lisa) Schneider, Huntsville, AL, and daughter, Terri (Patrick) Modlin, Faucett; three grandsons, Karl Schneider, Jacob Modlin and Michael Modlin; three sisters, Pauline Finke, Wichita, KS, Nadine (Walt) Gist, Leavenworth, KS, Anna Lee Barron, Glendale, AZ; two brothers, William (Patsy) Cox, and Gerald (Kay) Cox, both of Leeton, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nina provided years of volunteer assistance to her husband during the 32 years he served as the instrumental music director in Maryville R-II schools and she was the Vocal Director at the high school from 1976-1978. She was also the instrumental band director at Horace Mann school for over 30 years, and taught over 20 years at St Gregory’s School, directing both the vocal and instrumental programs. In addition, she was the music director at the First Presbyterian Church, Maryville, for 30 years, retiring in 2005. Since retiring, she has continued as a choir member, bell choir director, church treasurer and deacon.

Nina committed her life to service, participating in many organizations within the Maryville Community. She served as a 4-H
leader for many years during her children’s membership in the Maryville club.

She has been part of the local AAUW organization for more than 35 years, serving as President and in other committee positions. In 2002, she became an AARP tax counselor after assisting her husband for several years, and joined the Nodaway County Association of Retired School Employees, serving as Treasurer from 2006 - 2016. Other memberships and activities have included a recent member of Chapter L, P.E.O.; a former member of the Nodaway County Chorale, and a Nodaway County Ministry Center volunteer. Nina, along with her husband Lee, was a key supporter of the R-II Educational Foundation planning for the soon to be completed Performing Arts Center.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church, Maryville, MO. The burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO, at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, April 29, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
