Paul Donald Jones, 76, of Maryville, MO passed away Friday, April 15, 2016, at his home with family at his side.
Paul was born in Evansville, IN, on January 5, 1940. His parents were Paul Edmund and Catherine White Jones. Paul had lived in St. Joseph, MO, then in Carbondale, IL, and then in Maryville since 1966.
Paul had attended high school at the Conception Seminary School in Conception, MO, then Mount Michael's, at Elk Horn, NE. He had 1 year of college at the Conception Seminary, then 1 year of junior college in St. Joseph, MO. He received his BS at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, before receiving his Master's Degree at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL, and had worked on the PhD.
Paul was a Professor of English at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO, for 47 years. He retired in 2013.
His memberships included the St. Gregory's Catholic Church, and the Freedom of the Road Riders, chapter 26, both of Maryville.
On September 9, 1961, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Joseph, MO, Paul was united in marriage to Sandra Lue Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra, of the home; children, Paul A. (Kathleen) Jones, Olathe, KS, Cathi (Scott) Postma, Parkville, MO, Jean (Claudia) Jones, Miami, FL, and Sara Jones, Kansas City, MO; 14 grandchildren, Aleks and Addison Jones, Nicholas, Renee, Jessica and Sydney Postma, Nicole, Dylan, Christian, Daniel, and Douglas Jones, Keevon, Charlotte and Anthony Ortman; 4 brothers, Rick (Trish) Jones, Fresno, CA, Robert (Mary D.) Jones, St. Joseph, MO, David (Marilyn) Jones, Summerville, SC, Br. Phillip Jones, FSC, Memphis, TN; 1 great granddaughter, Leala Day, Olathe, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 sister, Margaret Jones.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at the St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville. The burial will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO,
Family and Parish Rosary will be at 5:30 PM Monday, April 18, 2016, at the church. Visitation will follow until 8:00 PM.
Memorials are suggested to the English Department at NWMSU, or to the St. Gregory's Catholic Church.
