Marcella Jean Long, 77, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Elmo, MO, and Clarinda, IA, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Mosiac Life Care in St. Joseph, MO.
Marcella was born on September 19, 1938, in Clarinda, IA. Her parents were Rex and Charlotte (Smith) Garvin. She attended school in Clarinda, and graduated high school there in 1957. She went on to earn her LPN certificate from Clarinda Junior College. The family operated a farm in the Elmo, MO area, and moved to Maryville in 2009.
On May 13, 1960, Marcella was united in marriage to Donald Dean Long, in Shambaugh, IA.
She worked as a LPN at the Clarinda Hospital and then the Garden View Nursing Home in Shenandoah, IA. She retired from Energizer in Maryville after 16 years.
Marcella formerly attended the Elmo Christian Church, Elmo, MO.
Later she attended the Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville. She was a former member of the Bradley-Carver AL Post 492, Ladies Auxiliary, Elmo, MO, then transferred her membership to the Ladies Auxiliary of the James Edward Gray AL Post 100, Maryville. She also was a member of the Crazy Quilters Club, Maryville. MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Carroll Garvin.
Her survivors include her husband Don, of the home, Maryville, MO; 3 sons, Jeff (Glenda) Long, Skidmore, MO, David Long, Washington, IL, and Craig (Gina) Long, Auburn, NE; 2 sisters, Diana (Raymond) Gray, Fontanelle, IA, and Elaine McGhghy, Springfield, MO; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Marcella’s body has been cremated. Her memorial services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. The inurnment will be at a later date. The minister will be Pastor Paul McKim.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
