Kathryn Jones

Jeanne Kathryn Espey Jones of Maryville, Missouri, passed into eternal life in the early morning of January 31st, 2016.

The youngest child of Ivan Allison Espey and Helen Kate Powell Espey was born in the family home southwest of Maryville on June 24th, 1929. She joined siblings James Allison Espey, Joseph Eugene Espey, Sarah Virginia Fisher, and Richard Ivan Espey.

She walked with her older siblings one and a half miles to Scudder School at the present-day five-mile corner, and attended through sixth grade, graduating from Maryville High School in 1947. Becoming a Bearcat at Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, Kathryn became active on campus in Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and met her future husband, Ken B. Jones. Her lifelong love of home and family was fulfilled in her vocational home economics field of study and her marriage to Ken at the end of their college years.

Sarah Kathryn was born as she and Ken launched his career in teaching and coaching. Susan Genene joined the family when they settled into 14 wonderful years in Clarinda, Iowa, building lifelong friendships centered around church and community. The loss of newborn son, Ned Espey, was the only sadness in those years.

Moving back to her hometown in 1967 gave her the opportunity to help her parents and be surrounded by family activities. Kathryn and Ken watched their children grow, get married in their home, and welcomed grandchildren Austin James Hunt and Lauren Susan Hunt who enriched their lives. During these years, she was also an active member of Chapter HT, PEO and First Presbyterian Church, Maryville.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joseph and Richard, husband Ken, and son in law James Hunt. She is survived by her two daughters, son in law David Sporrer, two grandchildren, siblings James and Sarah, and many beloved family members.

Funeral services for Kathryn will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church, Maryville. The burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
