Richard "Dick" Marvin Luke

Richard Marvin “Dick” Luke, 85, of Maryville, MO, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2015, at his home with his family at his side.

Dick was born on September 13, 1930, in Clyde, MO, to Frank and Regina (Ables) Luke. He graduated from St. Benedict’s School in Clyde.

He served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps from January 31, 1952, to January 30, 1954. He achieved the rank of Corporal and fought in the Korea War with the 1st 4.5” Rocket Battery, 1st Marine Division. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Oak Clusters, United Nations Medal, and the National Defense Medal. SEMPER FIDELIS!

On July 13, 1954, at St. Mary’s Church in Maryville, Dick was united in marriage to Rose Mary Wilmes. They spent 61 wonderful years together.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leroy, Ralph, Joe, and his sister, Vera Mae Luke.

Dick worked for 19 years for Meyers Specialty Store in Maryville installing floor covering before starting his own business, Luke Installation. He installed flooring for many years in the area.

Dick enjoyed antiquing and telling friends about his antiques, traveling, casinos, and visiting with friends. He loved spending time on his farm: mowing, tending to his cattle, and working in his shop.
He loved playing his harmonica, but his greatest joy was his kids and grandchildren.

He was a member and attended St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville. He was a member of the Tri-C American Legion Post 464, Conception Junction, MO, and the VFW, Maryville.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Luke, of the home, Maryville, 7 children, Sharon (Oak) Mayes, Bolckow, MO; Marilyn Hughes, Savannah, MO; Sheila Luke, Maryville; Rick Luke, Hopkins, MO; Kirby (NamHee) Luke, Seoul, S. Korea; Joyce Luke, Maryville; and Mike (Leslie) Luke, Barnard, MO. He had 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers - Dutch (Mary) Luke, Maryville; Alvin (Mary) Luke, Maryville; Marvin (Janet) Luke, Stanberry, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Luke was cremated. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville, MO. The inurnment will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maryville.

A parish and family prayer service will be recited at 5:30 PM on Monday, November 2, 2015, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8:00 PM.

Military Rites at the cemetery will be by members of the Tri-C American Legion Post 464, Conception Jct., MO.

Memorials are suggested to the SSM Hospice of NW Missouri or to Camp Quality.
