Donald S. Cox

Donald Shelton Cox, 87, Maryville, MO, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at his home.

He was born on April 22, 1928, in Maryville, to Wilbur M. and Beatrice R. (Green) Cox.

Don was educated in rural Maryville schools and graduated from Horace Mann High School. He had attended NWMSU.

He was a US Navy veteran in WW II, serving aboard the USS Prairie, and USS Southerland.

His memberships included the First United Methodist Church, the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100; a member and past Worshipful Master of Nodaway Masonic Lodge #470, AF& AM, The Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of St. Joseph, a Legion of Honor member of the Moila Shrine Temple, and the IBEW, St. Joseph local.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Francis Cox.

Don spent 38 years with St. Joseph Light and Power. He was a lineman, and retired as the superintendent of the North Division.

On June 2, 1948, Don was united in marriage to Joan Aileen Schneider in Maryville. She survives of the home in Maryville.

Other survivors include his children, Susan (Richard) Cordell, Grain Valley, MO, Sally (Edward) Klaas, Jr., Maryville, John Cox, Cosby, MO, Don (Marie) Cox, Jr., Springfield, MO, Cindy (Doug) Mikkelson, Newton, IA, and Shelly Null, Jefferson City, MO; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home. The burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery, both of Maryville. The minister will be Pastor Paul McKim.

Military rites at the cemetery will be conducted by the Military Honors Detail, and members of James Edward Gray, American Legion Post 100, Maryville.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Monday, July 13, 2015, at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be recited following the visitation.

Memorials can be made in Don’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
