Rose Marie Duty

Rose Marie Duty, 78, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 9, 2015, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Rosie was born on August 9, 1936, in St. Joseph, MO. Her parents were Frank and Margaret (Nurski) Zbierski. She graduated from Benton High School in 1954.

She married Thomas L. Duty in 1956, in St. Joseph. They later divorced.

Rosie attended St. Joseph Junior College and later graduated from NWMSU with a B.S. and M.S. in Secondary Education.

She taught at Jefferson C-123, Conception Junction, MO, and later at the Harlan Community High School in Iowa for 27 years. She also served on the Harlan city council.

After retiring, Rosie relocated to Maryville to be closer to her grandchildren. She actively served her community as a member and officer of AAUW, Maryville Public Library Board, and was a volunteer for Eugene Field and Maryville Middle School.

Rosie was a regular walking on the track at the Maryville Community Center, and all the events involving her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Marilyn Polous.

Survivors include her children, Greg and wife Connie Duty, St. Joseph, MO, Jeff and wife Dixie Duty, Defiance, IA, daughter Stacey and husband Scot Calfee, Maryville, MO; grandchildren include Gregory, Danica, Elizabeth and Jennifer Duty, Ethan, Aidan, and Maggie Calfee; great grandchildren are Ayana Cunningham, and Ashlynn Evans; sister, Patricia Sauer, Rolla, MO, brothers, Frank and wife Meg Zbierski, Sacramento, CA, and Tom Zbierski, Chicago, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Rosie's final wish was to donate her body to the University of Iowa for medical research with an emphasis on the disease, Scleroderma.

A celebration of her life will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Maryville Middle School Library, or the Harlan Community High School, Harlan, IA.

Services are under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
