Dean Gard, 80, of Savannah, MO, and former long-time resident of the Maryville area, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Mosiac Life Care, in St. Joseph, MO, after a brief battle with cancer.

Dean was born on September 12, 1934, in Hopkins, MO, to Herbert Lee and Pearl (West) Gard. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1952. Dean married Alice L. Collins on October 4, 1953, at the Skidmore Missouri Christian Church, they later divorced.
Dean had worked at the former Safeway Grocery store in Maryville for 7 years. He then spent 7 years as a franchise partner with Dempsey-Harden in the Phillips 66 Service Station, Maryville. He retired after 33 years as the owner/manager of Maryville Implement, the local John Deere dealership.

In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his siblings, Curtis, Paul, Darl, and Marilyn VanAusdall.

Dean is survived by his children, Dennis (Lynn) Gard, Green Ridge, MO, Vicki (Terry) Morriss, Lexington, MO, Daniel (Kiet) Gard, Albuquerque, NM, Steven (Amanda) Gard, and Karen (Daniel) Wiederholt, St. Joseph, MO; sisters, Norma Sikes, Texas, Rose Ann (George) Findlen, WI; brother, Wayne (Sandra) Gard, Maryville; grandchildren, Teralyn, Patrick, Brittney (Ben), Joseph (Tyann) Rebecca, Andrew, Kelsey (Andrew); great grandchildren, Katelyn, Aubree, Epiphany, Anthony, Olivia, Lila Kay, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Dean was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mr. Gard’s body has been cremated. His services will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015. The visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM, both at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Pastor Paul McKim will be the minister for the service.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Wilcox Cemetery, Wilcox, MO.
