Doris E. Riley-Rudicel, 97, of Papillion, NE, and formerly of the Maitland and Maryville, MO, areas, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2015, at a health care facility in Papillion.
Doris was born in Maitland, MO, on August 22, 1917, to Elmer Guy and Lillian Belle (Weller) Shields. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her first husband, Ray Lewis Riley, whom she married in 1941. He passed in 1994, after 53 1/4 years of marriage. She married her 2nd husband, Donald Rudicel in 1995, and he passed in 2003, after 8 1/3 years of marriage; also preceding her was her brother and sister in law, Lester W. and Pauline (Caton) Shields, her brother in law, Maurice D. Wyman, and her grandson, Brent L. Riley, and great granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Riley.
Doris was a graduate of the Maitland High School. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education and later her Master's in Education from NWMSU, in 1978. She taught school for 32 years, the first years in the Gordon and Lincoln country schools, then 8th grade in Graham, MO, the 3rd grade in Maitland, and retired in 1981, after 17 years teaching English in the Mound City School District.
Her memberships included the Maitland Methodist Church; Delta Kappa Gamma, DAR of Nodaway County; PEO Chapter AL; Rosanna Chapter 262, of O.E.S. Maryville, MO; Retired Teacher of Holt County; and the Maitland Town and Country Extension Club.
Her survivors include her 2 sons, Philip L. (Marjorie) Riley, Kansas City, MO, and W. Eric Riley, Papillion, NE; sister, Eileen Wyman, St. Joseph, MO; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Guy (Mary) Riley, Oakview, MO, Victoria M. (Jerry) Steele, Kansas City, MO, Austin H. Riley, and partner, Ryan McKeel, San Francisco, CA, and Audra D.(Brandon) Bettis, Anchorage, AK; 9 great grandchildren, Gavin and Allie Steele, Aurora, Bethany, and Johnny Riley, Jackston and Olivia Bettis, Nick and Zach Kerns; Step Son, Don (Mary) Rudicel, Simpsonville, KY, 2 Step daughters, Carla Voran, Paola, KS, and Joni (Ed) Cornelius, Littleton, CO; 7 step grandchildren, 17 step great grandchildren, 3 step great great grandchildren; a step brother in law and sister in law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The burial will follow in the Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, MO. The minister will be Pastor Scott Moon.
At the conclusion of the funeral service, the Rosanna Chapter 262, of the O.E.S. will conduct a service for Doris.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service on Friday at the funeral home.
