James M. Watson

James Melvin Watson, 92, of Barnard, MO, passed from this life on December 17, 2014, at his home in Barnard.

James was born on July 7, 1922, in Clearmont, MO; his parents were Abner and Ruby (Dew) Watson. He graduated from Mount Ayr Iowa High School in 1940. The family moved to Barnard in 1944.

He farmed south of Barnard for many years, and worked at the stockyards. He had worked the wheat harvest in Kansas and Colorado, and retired in 2014 after 15 years at Hy-Vee in Maryville.

James memberships included the school board, the Barnard Rescue Unit, Lions Club, Barnard Housing Board, and was active for many years with Relay for Life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph Watson; his niece, Cheryl Walworth, and his nephew, Michael Appleby.
On February 22, 1953, James was united in marriage to Marcine Traster, and she survives of Maryville.

Other survivors include his children, 2 sons, David Watson, and partner Chad Kiger, Sacramento, CA, Jeff Watson, San Antonio, TX; 2 daughters; Susan Watson, and partner Kristen Peltz, Barnard, MO, Amy Watson, Barnard, MO; grandchildren, Abigail, St. Joseph, MO, D’Angelo Mack, Denver, CO, Nichol Peltz, St. Joseph, MO, Sara Peltz, Kansas City, MO, and Brad Peltz, Humboldt, IA; 2 sisters, Mary Appleby, Sun City Center, FL, and Shirley Gerhardt, Algona, IA; several nieces and nephews, his Hy-Vee family, friends, and his beloved dog, JoJo.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Rev. Pat Sampson will be the minister. Inurnment will be at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, December 19, 2014, at the funeral home.
