Richard L. Bennett, 82, of Savannah, MO, and former long-time resident of the Maitland, MO, area, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at his daughters home near Oregon, MO.

Richard was born on August 8, 1932, in Maitland, MO. His parents were Ralph E. and Clara (Ellison) Bennett. They preceded him in death as well as his wife, Irene B. Bennett, in 2011; and 2 brothers, Donald and David Bennett.

Richard proudly served his country in the US Army. Afterward, he farmed for many years and later owned a tire shop and was a fence builder in the Maitland area; he was of the Presbyterian faith. Richard enjoyed visiting his with neighbors, he gardened, and enjoyed watching the birds and animals. He was a member of the Savannah Missouri American Legion Post.

On October 25, 1952, Richard was united in marriage to Irene B. (Johnson) Bennett, in Burlington Junction, MO.

Survivors include his 3 children, Susan (Anthony) Rauch, Oregon, MO, Rick (Debbie) Bennett, Maryville, MO, and Terry (Marlyn) Bennett, Worth, MO; brother, Ralph (Junior) and wife Faye Bennett, Maryville, MO; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bennett has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Memorial graveside services and burial will be held at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at the Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, MO.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM, on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home.
