Evonne Jones

Frances Evonne Jones was born September 30, 1924, on the family farm outside of Wilcox, MO, to Glen and Edna (Meyers) Adams. The second of five children, she and her siblings attended Shell Grove Country School, then Horace Mann High School where she graduated. While attending Northwest Missouri Teacher’s College, she worked at Bakers Department Store in Maryville, and then went on to teach at the Lorraine School, near Burlington Junction, MO, for 2 years.

Evonne married her high school sweetheart, Harold Dale Jones, Jr., on March 11, 1945. They went to Florida where he was stationed in the US Air Force. Moving back to Maryville she became a housewife and mother, while Harold worked building houses. They purchased the Plant House in 1967, and it became the family business, expanding to Maryville Florist, The Plant House and Cameron Greenhouse, in Cameron, MO, and Myers Watson Florist, in St. Joseph, MO.

Evonne was a member of the First Christian Church, Maryville, MO, the IFA Club, CWF, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Maryville Soroptimist Club. After their retirement they enjoyed many years together, enjoying their grandchildren and traveling the United States. She passed away August 18, 2014, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home where she had resided the past three years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, and her parents; her step-mother, Lucile Adams, brother, Lloyd, and sister, Wilma Dawson.

She is survived by her son, Rego and Winifred Jones, Maryville, her daughter, Jan and Curtis Thompson, Cameron; granddaughters, Amy (Andy) Willard, Germantown, WI, Janna (Greg) Mannis, Olathe, KS, and Casey Fisk, Cameron, MO. Four great-granddaughters, Taylor and Baylee Willard, Lilian and Malaina Mannis, and two great-grandsons, AJ Willard, and Isaiah Wilson; sister, Faye (Eldon) Jensen, Maryville; brother, Franklin (Roseann) Adams, St. Joseph, MO; and step-brother, DeWitt Finney, Quitman, MO; along with 17 nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Wilcox United Methodist Church, Wilcox, MO. The burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Thursday, August 21, 2014, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home. Maryville, MO
