Hazel Coffelt

October 10, 1923 — April 24, 2014

Hazle (Hazel) Chapman Coffelt was born on October 10, 1923 the first of twins to Thomas Henry Chapman and Sarah Florence McCrery-Chapman in Gentry County, Missouri and died April 24, 2014 in Maryville, MO.

She attended Bible College in St Paul, MN until she was requested to return home to help take care of her ailing father. She completed her GED and then in 1979, along with her daughter Rhoda, she was graduated from Gateway Technical High School in Kenosha, WI. She was chosen by the graduating class to give the commencement speech.

She moved numerous times during her married life, having lived in Maryville, MO; Ravenwood, MO; Racine, WI; Kenosha, WI; McFall, MO; and Albany, MO.   She held numerous jobs during her lifetime, as well as being a mother of four. Her first job was plucking chickens at a factory in Stanberry, MO. She also worked as a waitress, a Nurse’s Aide, assisted her sister in the laundry business, and worked on their farm. She enjoyed drawing blueprints for homes that her husband built as well as sewing. Over the years she made numerous pieces of clothing for herself and her children. She also loved quilting and reading (she completed over 50 quilts for her family).

She is survived by Harold, her husband of 67 yrs. She is also survived by her children, Twila Ellis, Carol (Gordon) Segal, Randy (Linda) Coffelt and Rhoda (Paul) Brady, grandchildren Carlene Pierson, Jennifer Ellis, Joy Segal, Matthew (Bonnie) Ellis, Jamie (Sean) Cummings, Randall Coffelt Jr, Stephanie (Chad) Dragoo, Samuel Bell, Patrick Brady and Kevin Brady. She also leaves great-grandchildren Alexandra Butts, Austin Butts, Tyler Cooper, Christopher Segal, Dustin Ellis, Mikeala McCoy, Destiny Dragoo, Darin Ellis, Courtney Segal, Ethan Brown, Brennan Dragoo, Noah Pierson, Livia Segal, Mason Cummings, Caiden Segal, Owen Cummings and Jackson Segal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Henry Chapman and Sarah Florence McCrery-Chapman and all of her nine siblings and their spouses: Rebecca Chapman, Thomas Henry Chapman, Nora (LB) Walker, Etta Belle (Floyd) Bettis, William Henry (Doris) Chapman, Iva Chapman, Willis Francis Chapman, her twin Gazel (Earl) Noble and Mary Florence (Percy) Peters. A granddaughter, Carla Ellis and grandson, Jeremy Segal also predeceased her.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  The burial will follow in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ravenwood, MO>

The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 PM, Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the funeral home.
