Paul Wilson Moyer

Paul Wilson Moyer, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2014.

He was born on July 20, 1926, in Maryville, Missouri, to Ralph Earl and Mary Margaret (Stundon) Moyer, who preceded him in death.

Paul attended St. Patrick’s Grade School, where he received an exceptional beginning to his life-long learning endeavor.  He was an altar boy for six years, of which he was extremely proud. He graduated from Maryville High School in 1944.

Paul served his country in the Navy from 1944 through 1946, and was stationed in the South Pacific.  Upon his discharge, he attended Northwest Missouri State College and graduated with a double major in business administration and industrial arts with a B.S. in secondary education.

In 1949, while in college, he met and married the love of his life, Norma Jean Bahl.  During the early years of their marriage, Paul worked at Lloyd Chain Manufacturing Company.  He was the production manager and purchasing agent from 1949 through 1956.

In 1954, he purchased the Superior Cleaners growing the business to include laundry and rental supply.  During these years, Paul was active in the Boy Scouts of America and the Maryville City Council.  He was also a charter member of the Jaycees and was named “Boss of the Year” in 1960.

After twenty successful years, he sold his business and pursued his love of farming.  He raised Black Angus cattle and crops.  He was a member of the NW Missouri Beef Improvement Association.  In 1979, he received the Commercial Beef Producer Award for the state and county and hosted the Missouri Cattle Feeders Tour.  In 2001, he was inducted into the Nodaway County Agricultural Hall of Fame.

In 1980, he sold most of his land and began working for Mid America Forming.  He traveled across several southern states managing a company that manufactured sucker rods for oil rigs.

In 1985, Paul reinvented himself again.  This time he went to work for the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the University of Missouri (MO Farms).  He was able to help financially depressed farmers get back on their feet.  He felt this was one of his most rewarding jobs.

In 1987, he decided to put all of his experience to use and thus began Moyer Farm Management, Inc. He managed around 3,000 acres making them both productive and profitable until his retirement at age 81.

Paul always had a love for nature and photography.  He enjoyed many years of traveling and taking pictures of barns, silos, flowers, sunsets and especially of his  family and friends.  He was also an avid Bearcat Football fan.

He was preceded in death by two of his brothers and their wives, Ralph Moyer (Adele) and Don Moyer (Thelma).

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of the home; a son, Jerry Moyer and wife, Marilyn, Titusville, FL, and three daughters, Paula Savaiano and husband Angelo, LeClaire, IA, Dian Blankenship and husband, Doug, Council Bluffs, IA, and Linda March, and husband Craig, Albuquerque, NM.  Paul is also survived by one brother, Bill Moyer, and wife Esther, Maryville, MO, and one sister in law, Wilda Ilene Heck, Mound City, MO, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Paul took special joy and pride in his seven grandchildren, Angela (Jon) Possehl, Davenport, IA, Staci (Chris) Willis, Wauconda, IL, Tammy (Michael) Lunetto, Chicago, IL, Matt (Heather) Kincade, Depere, WI, Marc (Katie) Kincade Columbia, SC, Megan (Ryan) Bigos, Ponte Verdra Beach, FL, and Justin Moyer, Los Angeles, CA.  He was also the proud great grandfather to twelve great grandchildren, Anna, Nate, and Sofia Possehl, Davenport, IA, Cameron, Olivia, and Mallory Willis, Wauconda, IL, Hayden, Brennan, and Jacob Kincade, Depere, WI, and Caylee, Brooklyn and Campbell Kincade, Columbia, SC.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.  Father Chuck Tobin will officiate the service with the inurnment to follow at St Patrick's Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

Military rites at the cemetery will be conducted by members of the James Edward Gray, American Legion Post 100, Maryville and members of the Missouri Military Honors Detail.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Gregory’s Catholic School, or SSM Hospice of NW Missouri.
