Laverne Moore

July 20, 1918 — February 13, 2014

Moina "Laverne" Moore, 95, of Maryville, MO. passed away peacefully on February 13, 2014 at Parkdale Manor in Maryville.

Laverne was born in St. Louis, MO. on July 20, 1918, to Thomas Albert and Mahaley Eleanor (Harris) Wimbush. She lived most of her life in the St. Louis area, but lived several years as a child in Memphis, TN. She graduated high school in Memphis and Hadley Vocational School in St. Louis.

On May 29, 1954, she married Bradford Jay Moore in St. Louis, MO. They were married 48 years, until his death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Albert & George Wimbush; two sisters, Millicent & Thelma Wimbush; and son-in-law, Michael Gruenenfelder in 2003.

Laverne is survived by two daughters; Judy Gruenenfelder, Highland, Illinois and Barbara (Joe) Ledbetter, Maryville, Missouri; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Kostedt, Stephanie (& Keith) Wallace, Sean Gruenenfelder, Jon (& Danielle) Ledbetter, Hollie (& Ryan) Hill and Jeff Ledbetter; and 7 great-grandchildren: RJ, Alex, Jackson & Mikayla Wallace, Austin Kostedt, Hunter Prestin and Reagynn Hill.

Laverne worked as the church secretary for First Baptist Church in St. John, MO. for many years before retiring in 1980. After retiring, they moved to Owensville, MO. where they lived for 22 years. Laverne was active in the Owensville Garden Club and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Throughout her life, she remained a faithful supporter of many charities including the Wounded Warrior Project and the Salvation Army. They attended New Salem Baptist Church & later First Baptist Church in Owensville.

Upon the death of her husband in 2002, she moved to Maryville, MO. near her daughter until her death. She attended Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville.

Laverne was a loving, caring wife, mother & grandmother. She came to know Christ personally at a young age and lived out her full life as an example of Christ's love to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed, but confident that she is living her eternal life in the presence of her Lord.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 12:00 PM, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The minister will be Rev. Paul McKim.

The burial will at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 21, 2014 in the Owensville Cemetary, Owensville, MO.

There will be a time of remembrance & visitation one hour prior to the funeral service for friends and family at the funeral home.
