Fanny Belle Peter

Fanny Belle (Long) Peter 84, Skidmore, MO, went to join her beloved husband of 64 years on January 28, 2014, at the St .Francis Hospital, Maryville, MO.

Fanny was born on April 1, 1929, on the home farm southeast of Graham, MO, to Oliver W. and Mildred (Goff) Long. She attended the Barnes country school until 1940, when the family moved to their farm south of Quitman. She then attended the Quitman school where she excelled in all her classes and was active in sports and music. Fanny graduated from the Quitman High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1947. Later, she attended Northwest Missouri State College majoring in business and for 20 years was the office manager for Robbins Lightning Protection Co, Maryville, MO.

In July 1947, Fanny married Kenneth Saunders Peter of Skidmore, MO. They set up housekeeping in Skidmore but later moved to the tenant house on her dad’s farm and Kenneth helped with feeding cattle, operating the bulldozer, etc. They purchased the Peter home place farm northeast of Skidmore in 1952, where they lived and Fanny was secretary for the family business, The Peter Construction Company, until Kenneth’s death in 2012. Fanny continued to live on the farm until 2013 when she went to reside at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Fanny was not afraid to tackle the various tasks that were asked of her and was successful in her many endeavors. She enjoyed being involved in community activities and worked right alongside with her husband in many organizations. Over the years, Fanny was past officer of the Town & Country Saddle Club; member of the local Successful Club; past Republican Committeewoman of Monroe Township, Nodaway County; past president of the Nodaway County Federated Republic Women; past publicity chairman of the Skidmore “Punkin” show, after it started again in 1970; past Worthy Matron, and 50 year member of the Skidmore Chapter of the Eastern Star; member and past Children’s Superintendent of the Skidmore United Methodist Church; past Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack 68, Skidmore, MO; past member of the Business and Professional Women, Maryville; member of DAR; member of Skidmore Lions Club; and was an Auxiliary member of MLICA (Missouri Land Improvement Contractors).

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, and sister Mary Elizabeth Velvick.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Wayne Peter, Civil Engineer with St. Joseph Herzog, Camden Point, MO, and Donald (Jessie) Allen Peter, (DVM), Hermiston, OR; three grandchildren, Melissa Peter, and Mikayla Peter, both of Gower, MO, and Joshuah (Meghan) Peter (Esq.); Three great grandchildren, Kyle, Kameron, and Lukas K. Peter; two step grandchildren, Ashley (Kurtis) Strzelewicz, and Jamie Simmons; six step great grandchildren; three sisters, Jessie Marie Jones-Smith, Olive Irene Smith, both of Maryville, MO, and Belva Dean Dawson, Quitman, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Skidmore United Methodist Church. The burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, also of Skidmore.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM, on Friday, January 31, 2014, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
