Birt H. Johnson, 95, of Skidmore, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO.

Birt was born on May 10, 1917, in Toad Holler, near Clearmont, MO. He had formerly resided in the Clarinda and College Springs, IA, vicinity, and moved to Skidmore when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Skidmore High School.

His parents were Elmer A. and Letha Maude (Davison) Johnson, and preceded him in death. Birt was the last living of 10 Johnson siblings. Those that went before him were: Martha Cade, Margaret McKinley, Zora Orme, Lester Johnson, Sam Johnson, Leona Brown, Delmer Johnson, Katherine Lewis, and Ruth Wilson

On October 23, 1938, Birt was united in marriage to Mary Alice Newton, in Skidmore, MO.

In 1943, Birt was drafted by the US Navy, and served his country during WW II.

His memberships included the Skidmore Christian Church, Skidmore Masonic Lodge #511, AF & AM, Skidmore Lions Club, member of the former Sam R. Albright American Legion Post 411, an original member of the Skidmore Housing Board, Community Betterment Board of Skidmore, and the Skidmore Pumkin Show Committee.

After service, Birt owned and operated the Johnson Skelly service station for over 45 years in Skidmore. After retiring, he continued to repair T.V.’s and appliances in the area.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson, of the home; 2 daughters, Connie Wilson, Centennial, CO, and, Sharon Ann (Kenneth) Strauch, Skidmore, MO; 4 grandchildren, Kelly (Brett) Coffelt, Kansas City, MO, Casey (Angie) Strauch, Salem, NE, Tama Serfoss and Tyson Serfoss, both of Centennial, CO; 5 great grandchildren, Courtney Culp, Clint Coffelt, Garrett Coffelt, Cody Strauch, Colton Strauch; 2 sister in laws, Inez Boyer, St. Joseph, MO, and Liz Newton, Savannah, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, MO. Friends may stop by the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home to sign the register after 2:00 PM Friday. No formal visitation is planned. The family will gather at Newton’s Hall in Skidmore after services.

Military services at the cemetery by the Missouri Military Honors Detail and the James Edward Gray, American Legion Post 100, Maryville, MO
