David Lee Thompson

David Lee (Dave) Thompson 73, of Maryville, MO, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.

Dave was born in Maryville on December 12, 1939, to Shelton E. and Mary Jane (McGinness) Thompson, they preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Maryville High School in 1957. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

Dave was the co-owner of the former Bill & Dave’s Skelly Service in Maryville, later the Thompson Oil Company. In 1975, he bought into the Gray Oil and Gasoline Co., Inc. located north of Maryville. He recently retired as the co-owner/operator of Gray’s after 37 years of service.

His survivors include his children (with Beverly Thompson), sons, Jeff (Kristine) Thompson, San Luis Obispo, CA, Tim (Diana) Thompson, Maryville, MO, and daughter, Melanie (Kelly) Taylor, Villisca, IA; 7 grandchildren, Zoe and Sam Thompson, Clint and Adam Thompson, and Daniel, Jessie, and Katie Taylor; his brother, Bill (Edna) Thompson, Kansas City, KS; 2 nieces and a nephew; and companion, Linda Lekey, Maryville.

Dave’s wish was to donate his body to KU Medical Center for medical research. A memorial visitation will be held on January 11, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
