Melvin Welton “Whitey” Hubbell 86, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of the Skidmore, MO, area passed away Friday, November 9, 2012, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home in Maryville.
Whitey was born in Bolckow, MO, on December 20, 1926, to Archie and Mertie (Jasper) Hubbell. He attended South Nodaway School in Barnard, MO, and graduated from Horace Mann High School in Maryville. He received a B.S. in Engineering from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
Whitey owned and operated the Hubbell Water Softener Service for many years. He later was the custodian at the Eugene Field Elementary School in Maryville.
His memberships included the Skidmore Masonic Lodge #511 AF & AM, Skidmore, MO; and the Skidmore American Legion Post.
Whitey was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Cleo Hubbell, and Victor Hubbell.
A U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, Whitey had been a tail gunner on a Navy dive bomber plane.
On March 3, 1956, Whitey was united in marriage to Jacqueline A. Smock at St. James Catholic Church in St. Joseph, MO. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children, Teresa “Terrie” (Dale) Pierce, Shawnee, KS, Jack David (Lori) Hubbell. Omaha, NE, and Margaret (Michael) Ericsson, Sweden; 4 grandchildren, Brad Pierce, Lauren Pierce, Oscar Ericsson, and Lucas Ericsson; sister, Artis (Fred) Foster, Maryville, MO; a niece and numerous nephews.
Mr. Hubbell’s body has been cremated, his memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. No formal visitation is planned.
