Mrs. Lois A. Bowman 105, of Maryville, MO, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home in Maryville.

Mrs. Bowman was born on July 3, 1906, in Cameron, MO., to Lyle C. and Mabel Wright Allen. She was a former resident of Cameron and had resided in Maryville since the 1940’s.

Mrs. Bowman received her A.B. in Education from Missouri Wesleyan University, Cameron, MO. She was a retired English Teacher, having taught in Cameron, Hopkins, and Maryville R-II School Districts. She retired in 1969.

Mrs. Bowman was a much beloved and highly respected by her students. At her 100th birthday celebration, many of her former students came to visit and others send cards, all with their own expression of respect, affection, and appreciation of what she had done for them.

Her room overlooked a parking lot and up until her final few months she could tell who was working by the cars and license numbers in the lot.

Her memberships included the First Baptist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Maryville, MO.; and the Missouri State Teachers Association, Jefferson City, MO.

She married Richard Marion Bowman on August 15, 1932, and together they owned and operated the “71 Café”, formerly located in the 400 block on N. Main Street in Maryville. He passed away on August 19, 1993.

Surviving is a cousin, Kate Abbe, Woodside, California.
Mrs. Bowman has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. No memorial services are planned. A private inurnment will take place later at the Graceland Cemetery, Cameron, MO.
