Dr. Roger W. Corley 77, of Maryville, MO, passed away peacefully June 9, 2012, at his home with his family at his side after a three year battle with Leiomyosarcoma.
Roger was born on December 22, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Edward M. and Alice W. (Houston) Corley. They both preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his daughter in law, Jennifer Corley.
Roger was a graduate of Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, N.Y.; he received his Masters Degree from Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, and his PhD from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. He was a Professor of American History at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville from 1966 to 1997.
Roger served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1961; and later retired as a Major with the Army National Guard, retiring in 1994 after serving 34 years.
On November 28, 1970, Roger was united in marriage to Janice Marie Erickson, in Griswold, IA, she survives of the home. He is also survived by his children, Amy Corley, Rolla, MO, Craig Corley, Santa Monica, CA, Erik, and wife Mary Corley, St. Louis, MO, Robin, and husband Jason Walker, Smithville, MO, and Patty and husband Chuck Phillips, Raymore, MO; grandchildren, Emily Rose, Patrick Henry, and William Christopher Corley, Samantha Marie, Caroline Mae and Juliana Nicole Walker, and Charles Edward, and Hope Allison Phillips; and by his siblings, Edward (Woody), and wife Barbara Corley, Santa Rosa, CA, Susan, and husband Ken Wible, Lexington, MA, and Steven Corley, Arlington, VA; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Roger has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, 206 East South Hills Drive, Maryville, MO 64468, to establish a scholarship in Roger’s name.
