Russell Vangundy

October 16, 1919 — February 18, 2012

Russell VanGundy 92, of Maryville, MO passed away peacefully with his family at his side, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Russell was born on October 16, 1919 in Corning, MO, to Wilbur and Lucille (Morse) VanGundy. Russell was a lifelong resident of northwest Missouri.

On January 21, 1946 Russell was united in marriage to Rita C. Tobin, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Burlington Junction, MO.

Russell was a US Army Veteran of WW II and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant, with 5 battle stars in the European Theater. He worked as an agent for Mutual Protective Insurance Company, and also represented Knights of Columbus Life Insurance. His memberships included St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100, Elks Lodge #760.

Russell was preceded in death by his wife and son Gary R. VanGundy. As well as, his brothers, Ralph VanGundy (twin),Willard VanGundy, Forrest VanGundy; and sisters, Lois Elliott, Eva Harris.

Russell is survived by his children, Dennis VanGundy, Maryville, MO, Ronald (Nannette) VanGundy, Chandler, AZ, Vince VanGundy, Liberty, MO, Rita Ann (Todd) Hayes, Maryville, MO, and Christine (Todd) Goforth, Parkville, MO. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, MO. The burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Gregory’s Catholic Church School, Nodaway County Senior Center, or to the St. Francis Hospital Foundation.
