Edward Dale “E.D” Wiley 88, of Maryville, Mo., passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 in Maryville, Mo.
E.D. was born on March 14, 1923 to Dale and Ethel LouOna McClurg in Pickering, Mo. E.D. was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Herschel Wiley, his sister Wilma Toler, grandson Jacob Bryan Wiley, and his son, Mark Bryan Wiley.
On June 1, 1944, E.D. and Esther Jean Hall were united in marriage at the Wilcox Methodist Church, Wilcox, MO, she survives of the home. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage together.
E.D. and his beloved wife had lived in Lodi, CA, and Portland, OR, and later moved to Gerber, CA. In 1947 they moved to Suma, WA and stayed there until 1955. It was then that they purchased the Patterson Farm near Quitman, MO, and started their Jersey Dairy Cow herd.
E.D. graduated from the Red Bluff High School, class of 1941, Red Bluff, CA. He later attended a welding school and became an underwater, overhead welder, constructing boats for World War II. He also attended the Graham School in Portland, OR and learned the artificial insemination trade. He was a technician for Curtis Breeding for 25 years. He later worked for more than a decade as a mail carrier at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
He was an avid Bearcat fan, and attended every sporting event possible.
E.D.’s memberships included the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, Mo., and he was formerly of the Wilcox Missouri United Methodist Church, where he had been the Superintendant for several years. Member and former president of the Northwest Missouri Registered Jersey Cattle Club, Missouri Dairy Association, the Wednesday morning Camino Club, United Methodist Men, and had be a over 50 year member of the Skidmore Masonic Lodge #511, AF & AM, Skidmore, Mo.
E.D. loved to entertain, he sang and yodeled for groups and had performed with a Men’s Quartet, and he loved to tell jokes.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Jean of Maryville, his children, Marlene (Keith) Mowry, Severance, Kan., Kurby Edward (Linda) Wiley, Buford, Ga., Patricia Elaine (Al) Latall, Kansas City, Mo., and Anita Marie (Mark) Dickey, Overland Park, Kan., Christi Wiley, Kansas City, Mo. He is also survived by his sister, Coleen (Orlando) Burson, Ephrata, Wa., and his brother Drexel (Dorothy) Wiley, Ferndale, Wa., and by 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO. Pastor Scott Moon will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, Mo.
