Laura Gertrude Smith 80, Maryville, passed from this life on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, MO.

Gertrude was born on June 23, 1930, to Charles J. and Edith P. Wallace Smith of Clearmont, MO., they preceded her is death.

She was a graduate of Clearmont MO. High School. On May 15th 1948, she married Paul Smith of College Springs, IA. The couple spent most of their 62 years of marriage in Clearmont, where Gertrude was co-owner of Smith and Combs Upholstery. Being an accomplished pianist, she played the piano at the United Methodist Church in Clearmont until the couple moved to Maryville in 2000. Gertrude was also an expert seamstress, enjoyed refinishing antiques and loved playing bridge with dear friends. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Maryville, United Methodist Women, and Chapter L, PEO Sisterhood.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Smith of Maryville, four children, Duane Smith and wife Sandy, of Rock Port, MO, Terry Smith of Jeffersonville, IN, Susan Frankum and husband Kris of Maryville, and Rodney Smith of Maryville; eight grandchildren, Abby Henderson and husband Jeff of Overland Park, KS, Zachary Smith and wife Jennifer of Overland Park, KS, Emily Smith of Indianapolis, IN, Philip Smith of Jeffersonville, IN, Joshua Frankum and wife Rachel of Smithville, MO, Laura Happe and husband Jason of Clearwater, FL, and Seth and Sarah Smith of Austin, TX, and eight great grandchildren, Emma, Gus and Hank Henderson, Jake and Claire Smith, Micaela Frankum, Kandler and Elizabeth Happe. She is also survived by her sister Charlene DeShazer of Pell City, AL, and her brother C. Jay Smith and wife Faye of Clearmont, MO. Gertrude will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched.

Gertrude’s funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, her burial will be will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearmont, MO. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville.
